This course provides the learner with knowledge of tools and techniques
to be used in Process Improvement activities by teams using the
VALUE methodology. Practical healthcare applications with interaction
between the class participants. Topics include:
- (1) What is the VALUE matrix and how do you use it
- (2) How to measure and define your process
- (3) How to listen to your customers
- (4)How to get lasting results.
- TOOLS
AND TECHNIQUES
This course provides the learner with knowledge of tools and techniques
to be used in Process Improvement activities by teams using the

Advanced level of quality improvement tools and techniques including
tools for decision making and statistical data analysis. Topics
include:
- (1) Types of Data (Variable and Attribute)
- (2) Seven Types of Control Charts
- 3) Understanding Variability.
- FAST
TRACKING TEAMS
The objective of this course is to learn how to decrease the time
teams spend on process improvement and still achieve results and
maintain member's motivation and energy. Topics include:
- (1) How to work with the VALUE Matrix
- (2) What prework needs to be done
- (3) What is the role of each member, leader and facilitator.
- LEGAL
AND RISK MANAGEMENT ISSUES FOR NURSES AND OTHER HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS
This course will focus on identification of key risk issues in
health care with strategies for avoiding and or defending malpractice
claims, legal principles involved in medical malpractice litigation,
and examples of litigation involving health care providers. Topics
Include:
- (1) Common areas of nursing liability
- (2) Common charting errors to avoid
- (3) Failure to monitor or implement safety measures
- (4) Consent issues.
- CONDUCTING
A ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS FOR SENTINEL EVENTS
This course will include an overview of what JCAHO defines as
a sentinel event, and pertinent examples and case studies. The
participants will also learn the characteristics of a credible
root cause analysis. Topics include:
- (1) Evolution of JCAHO's Sentinel Event Policy
- (2) Most Recent Revisions to the JCAHO Policy
- (3) The BHS Sentinel Event Policy
- (4) Conducting a Root Cause Analysis
