The Baptist Heart Institute offers residents the latest in new treatments. As the first facility in Tennessee to perform Transmyocardial Laser Revascularization (TMR), the Heart Institute is helping East Tennesseans receive life-saving treatments. Services include:    • Diagnostic cardiology, including electrocardiography, echocardiography,      nuclear medicine and pharmacological testing.    • Cardiac catheterization, which helps determine the extent of heart      vessel blockage. Two cardiac catheterization labs are available in which      interventional procedures such as angioplasty and coronary stent placement      are performed.    • An electrophysiology and pacemaker laboratory to detect electrical problems      such as irregular heartbeats. Pacemaker insertion can also be done safely and conveniently. Coronary artery bypass surgery, angioplasty, drug therapy, open heart surgery, and MIDCAB, a new minimally invasive heart surgery, are also performed through the Heart Institute.
