Life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) classes, partnerships
with rural counties, and risk studies are just a few of the many
community programs the Baptist Heart Institute has participated
in over the years.
The Heart Institute seeks to prevent cardiac disorders by providing
prevention and education throughout East Tennessee. In the past,
CPR HeartSaver classes have been hosted by Heart Institute
staff and offered at various sites throughout the region. Baptist
also launched an outreach program with Hancock County four years
ago which allows paramedics in the county to send EKGs and other
data on cardiac patients via satellite. Transmitted by satellite
in one seconds time, the information is used by physicians
to inform paramedics on what needs to be done before they arrive
at the hospital. This enables those living in even the most remote
areas to receive life-saving cardiac care. Heart attack risk studies
and elementary education instruction are also ways in which Baptist
reduces the number of deaths associated with heart disease through
early detection and education.
