Opened in 1993, the Chest Pain Emergency Center is the region’s first program devoted exclusively to the treatment and evaluation of chest pain. Located near the emergency room and equipped with its own staff and specialized monitoring equipment, the center is designed to quickly evaluate patients complaining of chest discomfort. The creation of the Chest Pain Center was the result of research which demonstrated that if a patient who is having chest pain related to heart disease can be treated early, then that patient stands a good chance of having a heart attack prevented.
